Well, THAT was fast!

So in my last post I said I wanted to restart a blog because we were going to start trying for a family. Since I'm 38, we thought the process might take a while. Well... wrong. Starting a week or so ago, I began having some of the typical symptoms of early pregnancy... dizziness, breast tenderness (sorry), peeing constantly (sorry), and fatigue. Though I wasn't even late, I couldn't wait any longer, so Sunday, November 17, I woke up early to pee and decided to take the test. The instructions said to wait three minutes, but within 90 seconds.... BAM!

Poor Brian was still asleep and couldn't figure out why I wanted him to read the test result... "NOOO! I've got two more minutes to sleep!" Once I convinced him to look, though, we were both thrilled and stunned. We went out to dinner with Mom and Dad and Luke and Sarah that night for Luke's birthday, and it was soooo hard not to spill the beans!

I took another test the next afternoon (package came with two test sticks, so why not?): BAM!

By my calculations, I am now 4 weeks and 2 days pregnant, with a due date of July 30, 2014. On Wednesday, we took the first "belly bump pic" - except that's just my gut so far, not our poppyseed-sized blastocyst! B insists my boobs are bigger already.

I've signed up for umpteen "how big is baby this week?" email lists, downloaded THREE! pregnancy apps, and read half of "What to Expect When You're Expecting." I've also started a pregnancy workout DVD with one disc for each month of pregnancy. So far, I found I'm really out of shape, strength training-wise. I've also started following a more well-rounded diet (the bar was set pretty low for that one, given my previous terrible eating habits!) and upped my calorie count to follow first-trimester recommendations.

I've told one person - another pregnant friend with a family history of preemies - but we're waiting to tell the family until after our first OB appointment December 23rd - we hope to hear the heartbeat then and give Mom and Dad an ultrasound photo at our Christmas celebration that night! I'd be about 8 weeks along then. We don't plan to tell anyone else until the end of the first trimester, though both B and I suck at secrets, so we'll see how that plays out.

I can't wait to meet "Tank" - B's nickname for our wee one - I am not a patient person, but for this I want to wait as loooong as possible!
